Acclaimed Jazz / R&B vocalist Kathryn Farmer has enjoyed a stellar reputation on the world jazz scene. A musician’s musician with a 4 octave range and a mesmerizing electrifying stage presence.
This African-American singer was born in New York City, and graduated from New England Conservatory of Music (Boston), After college she returned to NYC and was quickly embraced by the jazz community
Performed in Paris in the Springtime, Hanoi in the Fall and Casablanca in the Winter. These are some of the places booked to perform captivated audiences in over 21 countries from the Far East Asia, South East Asia, and South Asia in Colombo at the Shangri-La Hotel, the Indian Subcontinent, Russia, Europe, Africa, Israel and The Middle East. Headlining venues from Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Sziget Festival Budapest, Bangkok, World Music Festival Berlin, Casablanca, Africa, New York Now jazz series in Israel, Italy, Moscow tour, including the renown JFC Club St Petersburg, Belgorod Philharmonic, Irkutsk Philharmonic, Belgorod Philharmonic Society, Montreux Jazz Festival Switzerland, Jazz De Barcelona Festival in Spain, Yoshi’s with Doug Carn (San Francisco) North Sea Jazz Festival, Rixos Hotels Turkey, Jazz Cafe Beirut, Israeli tour with Israeli Jazz quintet, Hanoi Vietnam, No Black Tie Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and most recently just returning from Colombo Sri Lanka at the Shangri-La Hotel. Her 2013 debut CD “MOONDANCE” was named in April’s WBGO’s (NYC/NJ) upbeat magazine as one of the top five CD releases picked by program director Gary Walker which gave Kathryn six month continuous in rotation airplay on WBGO (a major US jazz station).
The Artie Shaw Orchestra, David ‘Fathead’ Newman, along with many others, recorded and toured with such illustrious jazz artist as three years with Doug Carn, Walter Bishop Jr., James Carter, Lester Bowie, Hilton, Ruiz, Don Braden, Kirk Lightsey, David Hazeltine, John Hicks, Melvin Sparks and also worked with latin legends Larry Harlow and was featured with the late Tito Puente for a show at S.O.B.s (NYC). She also recorded and toured throughout Europe with Grammy award winning world music group The Klezmatics.
In NYC 2nd home is the only swing dance club in NYC is Swing 46. This is when not on tour with renowned Artie Shaw Orchestra. Kathryn is also a featured vocalist with the Stephen Santoro Orchestra at the Zinc Bar. She appears with The Jack Jeffers Orchestra and various nights with the Valery Ponomarev’s Thou Who Art Blakey Big Band.
